Legacy Promise Award: Annually at the Pink Promise Brunch the KC Susan G. Komen foundation recognizes several for their contributions to breast cancer awareness and support. The Legacy Promise Award honors the memory of Susan G. Komen by recognizing a cancer survivor, co-survivor or breast health advocate who is making an impact in the community in the fight against breast cancer. This individual constantly strives to further the position of the Affiliate within the community, while keeping the Komen Promise at heart, over an extended period of time. This person exemplifies the Komen spirit and serves as an advocate, energizing a commitment to the cause. Alison was so honored to join other Legacy Promise Award recipients:
2011 Paula Porsch and Floriene Lieberman
2012 Adele Hall & the Women's Public Service Network
2013 Dr. Carol J. Fabian
2014 Denise E. Gilmorea
2015 Lisa Covington (of blessed memory)
2016 Dr. Alison Banikowski
In 2016, Alison was humbled and honored to be selected to receive the Legacy Promise Award surrounded by family & friends! In her acceptance speech, Alison recognized those who have supported the Alison's Allies team including the Harlan Parker State Farm Agency and Tom Coones from the Jared Coones Pumpkin Run. She highlighted the many ways she was blest, including *Komen knowledge & support, outstanding health care providers [2 in attendance were Dr. Amie Jew & Dr. Priyanka Sharma], the wonderful people she has met on the breast cancer journey, her family & friends, and to be a SURVIVOR! Alison encouraged all in attendance to take a stand against breast cancer in anyway they can, including survivors sharing their story. She ended with wouldn't it be amazing if young girls of today would not have to face a world with breast cancer!
